Marv by Marilyn Sachs is a favorite of reluctant readers. With Marv's intense focus on invention I have found many pre-teens finally see the point in reading.
Well I'm glad you and your students have enjoyed it. Personally I found it to be about as interesting and entertaining as a half-brick.
